CHARACTER NAME: Rina Logan, aka Wild Thing
FANDOM: Marvel 982 (MC2)
CHRONOLOGY: Just after Last Hero Standing
BACKGROUND:
Earth-982 is very much a potential future for Earth-616 (or it was ten years ago). While some of the well-known heroes from the past are still active, the majority have retired, disappeared, or died, replaced by their students and their children. The news is full of the exploits of the Fantastic Five, the New Avengers, Spider-Girl, and other new heroes.
And in an upper-class New Jersey suburb, former X-man Wolverine and former assassin Elektra have married and settled down to raise their teenage daughter, Rina Logan. Both have trained her to fight from a young age, but still encourage her to live a normal life as a teenager.
Although she spends much of her time as an ordinary student at Upper Saddle River Senior High, Rina also plays hero as Wild Thing, wearing a distinctive costume that share elements from both of her parents' looks. She keeps the costume in her backpack, as her school seems to be attacked by an unlikely number of supervillains, super robots, etc.
Wild Thing's first public appearance was in a vicious battle in NYC with J2, in an attempt to find out his relation to the original Juggernaut. She also briefly came to blows with Spider-Girl when she mistakenly thought the other hero was working with her then-evil half-brother Hudson, AKA Sabreclaw.
For a while, she was friend with Magneta, a seemingly-benign teenager who had modeled herself after Magneto and started gathering heroes to herself. However, Magneta turned out to have darker plans in the end and the teamup didn't last. At the request of her father, Rina ran the X-People gauntlet, but refused membership when offered, having an almost blatant dislike of the team.
When Wolverine was among the heroes taken and magically corrupted by Loki in his attempt to destroy the Avengers he'd helped to create, Rina sought the help of the New Avengers. Her super senses led the heroes to the portal to Asgard and she was the one to lead the charge into the other world (much to the disbelief of the others). She was also part of the group who tried to stop the corrupted Hulk and who stood at attention when Captain America died and his soul was transformed into a new star by Thor.
PERSONALITY:
Considering that both of her parents have rather bloody and disturbing histories, Rina is a remarkably well-adjusted girl. In many ways, she's a typical teenager -- she does fairly well in school, gets picked on by the bitchy popular girl, and has a crush on that super cute guy who sometimes even talks to her!
But what Rina really enjoys is throwing on her "action togs" and throwing down with whatever bad guy happens to pop up at school. Or halfway across the globe. If she inherited anything from her parents, it's the love of a good fight. She can be extremely reckless, rushing into situations that are way over her head just for the fun of it. This impulsiveness can be seen elsewhere, as she sometimes thinks without speaking or leaps through portals without knowing where they go.
While she is close with both of her parents and has been trained by each of them, Rina is definitely a daddy's girl, and not just because she inherited his powers and crazy hair. She's proud to be Wolverine's daughter and has a lot of respect for her father. She'll fight at his back against any threat, whether he wants her to or not. Particularly if he doesn't. She can be extremely rebellious -- she is a teenager, after all. But she does respect her father (and she has a tendency to steal his catchphrases).
While some heroes comment on how much Wild Thing resembles her father in terms of attitude, Rina herself does have some notable differences. She doesn't have much of a temper to speak of, judging by the way she takes the crap that's dished out to her at school. Even in a fight, she's only truly angry when someone she cares about is hurt -- otherwise, it's just fun for her. While she isn't particularly shy, she is fully aware that she doesn't fit in with the other kids (due to the wealth factor more than the superhero factor) and this results in a reluctance to stand up for herself. Rina is somewhat more confident as Wild Thing than she is as herself, indicating that at least some of the attitude is likely a front.
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: Wild Thing
ALTER EGO: Rina Logan, high school sophomore
POWER: Rina is a mutant who inherited the majority of her father's powers, including a healing factor and enhanced senses, strength, stamina and agility.
In addition, she possesses "psychic claws" that resemble both her father's claws and her mother's sai. Her godmother Psylocke trained her to use these. While she says they cause psychic damage, they've been shown to cut through physical non-organic materials numerous times (silly writers). It's presumed by fans that this requires extra concentration.
COMMUNITY POST SAMPLE: [VOICE]
Okay, can someone explain to a girl just what the heck's going on? I swear, I didn't even see a portal this time. And this place kind of smells like New York but... not. And what's with Iron Man? Hasn't he been, like, retired for years? Is this a time travel thing? Man, my parents are going to FREAK.
The high-tech doodad that did the meet-and-greet talked about heroes. So who do we got here? Fantastic Five? Avengers? ...X-People?
And dad, if you're here? This totally isn't my fault.
THIRD PERSON: This wasn't really how she'd planned for spring break to go. Getting kidnapped to another dimension? Totally not cool.
Okay, maybe a little cool. Not nearly as action-packed as Asgard was, but it still seemed like the City was chock full of bad guys that needed stomping. And what was this about a whole coast full of villains on the other side of the country? She'd so have to pay them a visit.
She felt a little pang of guilt as she pulled on the familiar mask. Her parents had to be worried out of their minds. Sure, they were used to her running off. Nothing new there. But she knew part of the reason they didn't keep her under lock and key was because her dad could track her pretty much anywhere. So what would he do when the spoor died out? She knew that sick feeling in her stomach all too well.
But the feeling didn't last. A new city. A new world. So many people to fight. Heroes and villains she'd never net, never heard of.
She'd find her way home eventually. These things always worked out, right? For now, it was time to have some fun.
